How to install android apk file or android installable in Emulator? Windows 8

I asked one of our developers to send the apk to me for testing. He sent me the apk and I wanted to test in a tablet emulator. You can follow the below steps to test an android application when the apk is available.

Please note that the following blog is for windows 8. But the concept will remain the same in Unix or Linux.

1. Go to the SDK folder. You can find out this from Preferences under Eclipse – > Window –> Preferences

Click on Android and you can find out where is the SDK stored.

Click on Android and you can find out where is the SDK stored.

2. In windows 8, type Window  + R or go to the Run prompt. Type cmd. Under the command prompt go to the folder SDK/Platform-tools as shown in the picture

Android Platform tools folder

Please note that  the platform-tools folder should have adb.exe file.

3. In the command prompt, type adb devices. This will display all the running devices. Please note that you must start your emulator before typing the command.

baabtra adb devices

emulator-5554 is the device.

4. Type adb install apkname. In my case the apk name is massbaab.apk

baabtra apk install

Now the android is application is installed on the emulator. Now if you go to the apps from the emulator you can find the app.
